Garrett, Tom

Tom Garrett  born Hobart 1879 and died 1952. Studied art at Hutchins School in Hobart.  Around 1900 he became a professional painter, producing small jewel-like blue and green monotypes that recalled often the romantic watercolours of JJ Hilder, whose work Garrett greatly admired. He exhibited with the Royal Arts Society of NSW, and at various group exhibitions, but mainly his work became known through his exhibitions in various cities, notably in Melbourne at the Kosminsky Galleries. Represented in the Art Gallery of South Australia and the National Gallery of Victoria.
