I often marvel at our ability to fly, ancient hunter gathers on the African plains must have envied the birds ability to simply fly off when confronted by a lion.

In my work I often use birds and planes together as a symbol of man’s ability to invent a plane and join the birds.

I also sit in awe as I watch the birds - large and small - fly so effortlessly around our farm and at the moment all the male fairy wrens are in their bright blue plumage.

This painting with its old wallpaper and over-sized toy plane is a nostalgic vision drawn from my childhood, where our garden was always visited by blue wrens and I can clearly recall the thrill of seeing them flitting through the low shrubbery. GT
