Langker, Sir Erik

SIR ERIK LANGKER WAS BORN IN SYDNEY 1899 AND DIED 3RD FEBRUARY 1983.   HE WAS A PAINTER OF LANDSCAPE AND MARINE SUBJECTS.

LANGKER STUDIED AT THE SYDNEY ART SCHOOL UNDER JULIAN ROSSI ASHTON AND ALSO AT THE ROYAL ART SOCIETY, SYDNEY.

HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE TRUSTEES OF THE ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES FROM 1962 – 1975; PRESIDENT OF THE ROYAL ART SOCIETY OF NEW SOUTH WALES FROM 1946;  ALSO A MEMBER OF MARSHALL BEQUEST AND TRAVELLING ART SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEES AND A TRUSTEE OF THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE.

AN O.B.E. WAS AWARDED TO LANGKER IN 1961.  HE WAS KNIGHTED 'FOR SERVICES TO ART' IN 1968.

HE IS REPRESENTED IN THE ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, THE TASMANIAN MUSEUM AND ART GALLERY, THE SYDNEY UNIVERSITY COLLECTION, TO NAME A FEW.
